Bukowski seems to favor a pitter/patter pattern of “au contraire” by choosing the obvious and positioning the opposite. He calls our assumptions into question (sleep by night, wake by day, etc.) which is clever but sometimes predictable and boring. Offered in peace, Dwight Lee Wolter
Bukowski is undoubtedly one of my favorite poets. His raw style, yet one of immense sensitivity, has always fascinated me precisely because of that contrast. I even wrote him an epitaph once:
raw and unfiltered. Like something amazing somewhere in the world, if only I could remember what that is. Maybe it's not like anything else. Bukowski is probably the only one of him ever.

I can’t imagine what my life would have been like without Bukowski.
Wonderful writing! I love Bukowski 🥰
I never sleep. Not interested.
Bukowski is the only poet I listen to.
your good my friend
Love Bukowski. He is contagious.
Wonderful description of what is now called 'delayed sleep-wake phase disorder', with which I am also very familiar. The punchline made my day.
