Have you ever seen a butterfly in a cage?

She will not beat the bars

Or beg for her release

Instead she will sit silently

With wings barely moving

Until all her colors fade away

And there is one less beautiful thing

Living in our world......

M.L.C.

"Man, do you think yours is the only soul? Look around you. Everything that you see quivers with being. Though your thoughts are free, one thing you do not think about: the whole. Beasts have a mind; respect it. Flowers too- look at one. Nature brought forth each petal. There is a mystery that sleeps in metal. Everything feels, and has power over you". ~Gerard de Nerval

I loved this piece...interesting and informative.I love Patti Smith and her magical writing;Nerval was (and still is)one of her favorite, most revered poets. I started reading Nerval because of Patti and his beautiful words and the images I get from them always make the day better. Thanks so much for sharing this...

I wonder, if erudite people who delve into their subconscious, and seeing what is there, have bouts of madness. What of the people who take the same journey, but cannot or do not write beautiful lines of poetry? What happens to them? They practice dressage, if they're wealthy, or eat out of dumpsters if they're poor?

The mind of God is an ever-expanding library of human books telling their stories night and day. Every person who lives—has ever lived—will ever live, speaking in unison. A symphony of individual voice, of experience, extravagant…harmonious…dissonant…beautiful. Were we to pause and listen, we would fall to our knees and weep under the weight of its glory.

—drawn from my story “Stumbling into the Mind of God.”

Melancholy hypochondria, the suffering of surrealism within imagination. Learn to surf imagination without loses the sense of control. Breaking illusion is the cure ✨
