You made me laugh. Just when I was determined to not heart much today, then I'm presented with today's words and am compelled to respond and participate once again. 🎶

A brilliant writer indeed, and a man true to his soul. I understand that he owes a lot of his success to his friend Thomas McGuane, another man that is often overlooked and under-appreciated.

Jack Nicholson funded Jim's writing of his novella

Legends of the Fall which was bought and turned

into a film. Harrison hated his short stint at

teaching and turned to Hollywood to make

a living. Most definitely a different path taken from that

of 95% of MFAs who go straight into a university faculty job.

True, but Jim met Nicholson through Thomas McGuane.

I've always loved Jim Harrison, his writing and his person. Now i am old, very old, and i have lost track of the writers i admire. I am not even sure if Harrison is still alive, and i do not understand this Substack business. So many questions.

I write because the voices in my head keeps growing louder.

Awesome, and a powerful piece of writing.

"Novels and poems are the creeks and rivers coming out of my brain." this is a wonderful sentiment, alluding to the natural rhythm of creative expression. I like the idea of allowing whatever's inside to simply flow out of you. Great piece.
