Your pictures and narrative remind me of my ancestral home in the remote regions of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan ...close to the Porcupine Mountains.
Hello Ellen, when we lived outside of Chicago in Riverside, my family spent 2 weeks a year in the Porcupine Mountains at Horn's Cabins on a lake whose name I don't recall today. Those were the happiest days of my life, a place i go to frequently to remember me. Thank you for taking me there today. Ruth
This is a fabulous and inspiring post. The pictures, the quotes, and the timeless wisdom and tranquillity of it all makes me want to rush off out of the city and look at life from the perspective of a sage on some great mountain top.
Oh yes, let me, too, dance upon the mountains like a flame! Let me, too, drink deeply from nature's great river of silence and renew my soul, before I return again to the rat-race. Thanks for this, Erik.
Inspiring. I was just in New England and "settled" for The Berkshires instead of the White Mountains this year. Your experience, along with every photo and every quote, stirs a yearning deep in my soul.
Excellent photo essay... Full sensory experience to read. Coffee brewed over flame shouldn't taste good, but somehow it always does. Cheers to an excellent trip.
Your reminder of what being here now is all about is appreciated. More so that you, finding awareness and all of the many others of us doing so are here, and always have been... likely always will be.
What a spectacular share, Erik - photos and all! I moved to the foothills of the White Mountains in 2020 and still pinch myself every day. Well, not in summer during deer fly season. :( It's so peaceful here and you captured the best time of year. I love winter, too, but you wouldn't want to be hiking up near Mt. Washington in winter. Thx for sharing!
I appreciate everything you've written, quoted, and shown here. I'm someone who also needs periods of solitude in nature, and loves the White Mountains, Green Mountains, and Adirondacks. And this autumn has been very beautiful indeed. Thank you.
Right now I can't wait to graduate from college, pack my bags, get my mountain boots and start the journey. This writing and theme is the one that connects with me the deepest nowadays. 🍁
So lovely and true: beauty and connection to the wonder of our natural paradise through solitude and simply being. Plus your photos are amazing… but how did you appear in such long shots? Another beautiful mystery!
Erik, you are really living out the values found in your posts and excerpts from the writing you share.
It is valuable.
Cheers to you,
Jud

Thank you Martin for your beautiful words as always!
A beautiful and nourishing read, thank you.
Touched my soul
Erik:
Your sublime, sentient, and sensual images and words are beautiful balms for these chaotic times.

Beautiful. If more of us spent time in solitude and self-reflection maybe the sheer insanity of our world would be dialed back just a smidge.
I couldn’t agree more, Amy. Beautifully written…
