Political poetry is the most frustrating kind of poetry to write. I wrote such poetry back in the 60's and it's very interesting to me that it is all still quite relevant for today's political scene. I don't write political poetry anymore. Too many of us end up like Levy. I chose life.

levy was the greatest poet and creator of the mimeograph revolution poets of the 1960s. But let's get one thing straight. He didn't "apparently" die of a gunshot wound. He "definitely" died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The "someone else killed levy" theory has been thoroughly debunked. Here in Cleveland he is routinely celebrated and studied. Spirals, revolutions turn upside down thinking history is a straightforward one way street that only if you carry a gun and club will might win . Lucky for those kicked to the curb the lights flash a code read between the poets odes. A warning told by a poet passed to early in his life. Thanks for the contribution to literature and peaceful prose.

Maybe this was prophetic, or a hint, based on the title.

Incredible, and so spot on.

I love how this poem unfolds and appreciate the theme, getting his point from the first stanza but what a shame he could not hold on to life longer. When I learn of poets and philosophers torturing themselves and choosing early death at their own hand, I cannot help but to reassess their expounded wisdom and question it more or decide against further inquiry their direction. It’s like seeking advise from or trying to understand a murderer.

The poet was 26 when he took his life. That seems like permanent solution to a temporary problem territory. Free will or avoidance of pain or whatever, it saddens me. It’s hard to not think that is a shame and speaks more to the impact of mental stability and back to my original comment- poor judgement- not poor moral judgement. Life is worth living right now is greater wisdom as is gratitude over despair however hard life gets. These are hard issues. Just remember we get to have feelings about this hard issue, not just intellectual views. And the poem really was quite good.

What powerful words! Truly, if you want a revolution, it starts internally. Thank you for sharing this piece; it's quite thought-provoking, too.
