Really appreciate and enjoy this poem. ✨ Jeffers is one of my favorite poets and it was
so great to see this poem here this morning; thank you for sharing. For anyone interested in exploring more about him, his work, his life etc., a visit to his house in Carmel, CA is truly magical stuff. www.Torhouse.org
I love this poem and I would be pleased to add that in the immeasurable silence of the universe, where stars and stones whisper alike, lies a deep, painful consciousness hidden, reflecting both awe and the transience of life in the infinite expanse of our existence.
"the immeasurable silence of the universe" what a nice phrasing! Reminds me of e.e. cummings "night's speechless carnival / the painting / of the dark / with meteors / streaming from playful immortal hands / the bursting of the wafted stars."
Indeed, Cummings' vivid imagery captures the cosmic dance in a way that evokes a sense of both grandeur and intimacy within the universe's vastness. It's as if each meteor and star is a brushstroke on the canvas of night, painted by hands that know the timeless play of light and darkness, weaving a tapestry of celestial wonder that speaks to the soul without uttering a single word.
The wonder painful awareness and this strange consciousness we’ve been gifted or cursed with all in this piece. And reminded - knowing - it was no mistake. It’s what poets were put on earth for.
It’s a wonder that as Harari puts it in Sapiens, this unique “strange consciousness” “we’ve been gifted or cursed” is just colateral damage-an unwanted consequence from the emergence of evolution - which nevertheless sets us apart from other known species- and especially sets the poets apart from other humans.
You’ve sent me to look at Sapiens and its author. More on this when it arrives and I can digest it? That said if I believe we are near accord on this state of consciousness - were we once just grateful to breath before an aberration led us to become capable of experiencing emotional bliss - and torment?
A very eloquent and deeply insightful look at "us"and how we relate to our environment. I am very connected to nature and this beautiful poem reminds us how we are really all one, all connected. Very well done Jeff. A lovely reminder at the wonder of consciousness and connection.
The vastness of everything being one consciousness in all things formed by a very loving creator is like trying to count the stars which can be likened to every grain of sand on every beach in this entire world. 🙏🏼
I soak in Jeffers' words. They are words hidden and often unexpressed deep in my soul also. It takes the poignancy of Jeffers writing to allow it all to be released into freedom.
What an incredible collective thought of our consciousness. We are truly in everything and every living cell all part of our creator. Beautifully written, and deeply felt thank you so much

No better way to say it.

Hello. This piece made me drop everything and go hug Carl who is still tucked in. Go hug someone right now.
Everything has life. Stones, cells, air, earth. Oh how we need to be reminded. Thank you!
More Jeffers, please.

The depiction of life and creation is frightening and you've made it beautiful, wondrous. I thank you.
