Winans' Second Coming Press was a huge influence in the North Beach Scene of the 1980s, when I began to understand that community. It was also the inspiration for Zeitgeist Press, as frequently credited by David Lerner. We are grateful to Winans for the incredible books he put in the world.
I love this. There is a beautiful and gentle sense of ennui. But there is also hope in the salt on the egg and the hills of wild strawberries.
I imagine the mood Winans was feeling when he sat down to write this. I imagine that it helped to put it down on paper. As it always does. The power of poetry and writing to transform one's own experience. To be able to focus on the little things like salt on an egg to draw us back to the present moment. To see out of ourselves and to look up and see that there may be hope.
Well, that's what I took out of it for me anyway. Thank you for sharing this one. 💜
interesting. i take from it funerals without mourners, poets without an audience, lovers without love. the first half of the poem is a full glass and the second half an empty one. something for everyone, as you say
This is so perfect for Sundays. Like "Sunday Morning Coming Down" Kris and Willie plus pals share this song. There so is a sense of lonely feelings on Sundays. And always have been sometimes even when I'm not alone. Thank you.
Contrast it with the soul satisfaction of meeting with the Creator of the Universe and His only begotten Son, in the indwelling Holy Spirit’s power and you have true worship!
The poetry and song of Psalm 8 is unmatched.
I love Sundays.

Yes, it's such a gentle juxtaposition of both melancholy and hope. A delicately crafted poem. It really pulls the heart strings.
Perfect for a rainy east coast Sunday morn. Lovely.

I resist being influenced by the negativity of contemporary society. A constant search for Peanuts in the comic strips.
This is a remarkably moving poem. :(
Ah the everpresent cycle
Of light to dark.
Nice work as usual outlaws
Such a sad observation.
