''One who knows does not talk. One who talks does not know. Therefore the sage keeps his mouth shut and his sense-gates closed. it says "He will blunt his own sharpness, His own tangles adjust; He will dim his own radiance, And be one with his dust." This is called profound identification.''-Dao De Ching Chapter 56,suszki translation.
"I've always lived alone. I too, but loneliness is not living alone, loneliness is the inability to keep someone or something within us company, it is not a tree that stands alone in the middle of a plain but the distance between the deep sap and the bark, between the leaves and the roots." -
Beautiful collection, thank you. Do you know what text the Jung one is from?
Silence is deeply important for me. It is one of my principal coping methods or strategies of containment. I once spent a year and a half in rural France practising silence and Zen Buddhism.
Have you read Sara Maitland's Book of Silence? I really recommend it to one and all. :)
I believe silence can be an excellent way of being intimate with ourselves and others
Great collection of quotes.
What a beautiful post on silence today.
Noise is more than what is heard.
Jung, I hear you.

Silence will speak to you the loudest, if you listen
I think this is the best poem about silence (with exceptionally good English subs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhO81S666Ok)
'Named / after an oath which silence annulled' is probably my favourite line in any poem.
Amazing. Especially the last quote. I fell in love with silence and it’s definitely mutual.
Also this:
"I've always lived alone. I too, but loneliness is not living alone, loneliness is the inability to keep someone or something within us company, it is not a tree that stands alone in the middle of a plain but the distance between the deep sap and the bark, between the leaves and the roots." -
José Saramago.
Carl Jung!!!
"Talking is always a torment for me"
💯 true.
People feel like I'm pompous when I say I don't really like talking. I feel like it's stressful 😂
I love the solitude, it's no wonder I ended up loving books and writing.
Jack has been with me for decades.
So few understand this ...🙏
Thank you, we need this.
