Nearly all the poems in the collection this was taken from were butchered by John Martin in order for them to conform more to his bad taste. This work was no expectation and Buk stopped him from doing this while he was alive. After his death, Martin felt he had a free hand to censor and bowdlerize Buk's work. It's a tragedy.
