In 2018, the Australian musician, Nick Cave started a website called The Red Hand Files. It’s a little platform where he answers questions from his fans. Earlier this year he was asked quite a profound question by a 13-year-old named Ruben.
My goodness, this is a beautiful expression of care and love. I was Ruben in many ways and by 19 I had compromised, acquiescing to the machinery of consumerism and status quo. I think this would have helped me to stand firm. Oh, well…we do what we can with what we have at the time. Kudos to Nick Cave. I'll certainly take time to appreciate his art after reading this.
Really first rate and a specific call to a specific action. When I was young, 23, I was told to disenchant myself. It was the best worst advice. I went in the other direction "And that has made all the difference."
I've been reading The Red Hand Files for almost a year now, and in every answer Cave says at least one thing that strikes me like a lightning bolt of enlightenment. This answer is full of those moments. What a great service he's doing to humanity.
This. All of it.
Wish I had gotten this letter when I was 13. This is for everyone, all ages. Be astonished, awestruck.
Oh. My. Heart. This gives me great great hope. I don't always get his music, but Nick Cave as a human is a goddamn saint.
We need more Rubens. And more Nicks.
WORD!
Protect this man at all costs.
I forwarded this exchange to my 12- year old granddaughter. Wonderful advise.

a glimmer of hope
Amen. May we all be little vampires always.
This is awesome
Cave's music is excellent, and he is even better.
Great advice Nick. ❤️ From another Aussie...
Hallelujah, YES.

At 36, I still feel it’s never to late to take this well inspired and written advice. How soul feeding!
