And then a scholar said, Speak of Talking. And he answered, saying: You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts; And when you can no longer dwell in the solitude of your heart you live in your lips, and sound is a diversion and a pastime. And in much of your talking, thinking is half murdered. For thought is a bird of space, that in a cage of words may indeed unfold its wings but cannot fly. There are those among you who seek the talkative through fear of being alone. The silence of aloneness reveals to their eyes their naked selves and they would escape. And there are those who talk, and without knowledge or forethought reveal a truth which they themselves do not understand.
I think so too! It's also a sign of respect for the other person, to seriously consider what someone is saying and to recognize them in whatever words they choose. The Dali Lama also wrote an interesting Book 'Ethics of the New Millenium' (if I remember correctly) where he writes about the art of communication and to learn the tongue of the other ... understanding rather than trying to be understood ... I found that an enlightening thought!
I fully agree with this, but sometimes nothing interesting is said, we must however always listen to the other, and against argue or not according to the situations (interlocutor and subject important or not).
Indeed, dialogue helps the "way to the truth" (even if you can do it alone) when there is argument and counter-argument, without personal opinions, irrelevant quotations etc.
Quite a few authors... often contradict each other, knowledge and reflections can be shared, deep understanding remains an individual affair.
Highlights two of my favourite points about speaking. One, it's not about you as the speaker, but about giving value to your audience. And two, active listening is a core skill of a standout speaker #nowyouretalking #listening #speakercoach #standoutspeaking
I would say that it is neither, what counts is what has been said, explained. The first shares, tells, teaches (possibly)...the second is the one who hears, it’s up to him to think about it, or to believe on his word.
We could add, there are those who talk, teach, transmit...to others, I find it on substack, not being on other social networks, without having studied, thought, understood the subject they address, comment.
Sometimes it is so huge, that one can wonder if they are not just writing these reasoning errors, deliberately to occupy people, while the agenda goes forward.
I find it hard to believe that this is involuntary, but who knows.
I agree that the ill-expressed thought, without precision of the subject in its context, is murdered, this word means a voluntary action.
If someone asked me what existence is, I’d sincerely answer: it’s nothing, merely an empty form. A form that lies upon things from the outside, never altering their essence in the slightest.
Before you speak listen and don't interrupt someone with your thoughts because you don't find what they are saying is interesting.

Hmmm... didn't one, or a few, ancient Greek scholars say something to the effect of "dialogue is the way to the truth".

Listening would be required … and that’s not so common.
The Socratic method… so, Socrates. Exhausting man…
I'd say that dialogue is the way to truth (only) if one is aiming to find truth in dialogue!
Thank you, I needed to hear this today...
Yes, discernment & a true willingness to meet the logos in service to the other.
Dang I love him….😍

Thank you for this one.
Awesome 👍

Thanks for the Gibran! His poetry always speaks to me. Most of his work is available online. I keep the hardcopies anyway.
Silence says it best. Once a word is uttered you’ve desecrated truth.
“thought is a bird of space, that in a cage of words may indeed unfold its wings but cannot fly” I love this, it’s a very powerful image 🙏❤️
Maybe a typo here: “Let the voice within your voice speak to the ear or his ear;” ✌️❤️
From Poets.org: Let the voice within your voice speak to the ear or his ear;
I feel I can usually hear the ring of truth in what people say.
This goes for myself, too
I speak with confidence yet I listen for any bullshit I say.
Self deprecating comedy has helped me back myself up many times once I hear myself things that I didn't really mean

Beautiful, brilliant, profound. Genius.
