While I totally agree with his advice I cannot refrain myself from thinking that writing poetry, writing anything for that matter without alcohol feels a bit like having a sexual intercourse without being lubricated enough. It’s possible but it’s coarse… Perhaps that is why so many great writers are great drunkards as well…

Moderation is nice goal, but hardly works for long. Found that with cigarettes as well.

I know longer seek wisdom. I'd rather gape in wonder, at nature's careless perfection, and humanity's savage imperfection.
I can't even quit drinking in moderation. Been 3 years and all because of a cranky liver.
