Erik, I don't know much about you, but since I joined your community at the beginning of this year barely a day has passed on which your email arriving in my inbox has not provided a source of marvel, inspiration and joy. Thank you. Happy 2024
Inspiring words to help us forge ahead with the wind lifting us beyond the sting of the criticisms that slow us down or divert our paths and ideas. Starting fresh each day helps me.
Thank you! I love this new year resolution and I love Poetic Outlaws, I have discovered so many poets and poems thanks to you. It is always a pleasure to see you in my inbox. ✨
Great advice. But it's important, in my opinion, to learn from those mistakes, big and small. Continually making mistakes without that realization just becomes an exercise in futility.
I believe that the intrinsic meaning at the core of, "New Year, New Me”, is "New Now', aka: live more fully in this moment. For most of my adult life, I've not read or listened to mainstream newspapers or news stations, as I believe there is much more beauty and poetry in the world than chaos and terror. But the latter is generally what gets reported. So how is it that today's darker world events land on my doorstep and dinner plate more readily than ever before when I don't even have a cell phone?! I don't mean to be a cynic, but these days I find it hard to full embrace reading a book without considering there are places in the world where roofs are literally collapsing over libraries and readers in their living rooms. I certainly don't mean to dismiss the wonders of reading books! As an artist, I truly appreciate the sentiment behind submersing ourselves in any creative medium as a means towards touching the sublime part of our shared human experience. So whether we have the privilege of enjoying this exceptionally inspiring Substack each morning or are struggling to find a drop of water from amidst the dust and rubble, the New Year offers opportunities to engage this moment, right now before us, more mindfully, more peacefully, and with more kindness. (*apologies if my rambling, if at least heartfelt, comment feels a bit digressive :-)
Thank you so much for the marvels you bring to my inbox. And thank you for Gaiman’s wonderful piece. I hope I make a mistake soon this year so glorious that I can graduate to being a paid subscriber! Stay well!
“Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it” I bumped into this principle when I was rather an adolescent and some of my most despicable (yet beautiful in memory), mistakes, I made then. Later, duty (for family) replaced experimenting. No regret, though I imagine that for artists this time of trial and error never ends.
“each one of us still has the capability of carving out a poetic life rooted in joy and simplicity”.
Your words bring comfort and set new goals for me as they were at least in part what I had in mind when entering in the new year.
Thank you for all you do for this community, Erik! Such a refreshing departure from the routine.
Thank you!
Happy New Year!
Thank you for what you do. 😊

Wait for Godot.
Wait better. Backflips, and Jedi mind flips, while barely waiting for Godot at all.
Wonderful! So goood to hear. I worry constantly about almost everything I do or say!!? Quelle neurotique !? Thanks for this port.

Thank you so much! Happy New year.
You couldn't have expressed my own thoughts more aptly Amelia. 😊
Erik, this site has introduced me to new voices as well as reminded me of once loved ones, forgotten
on my own shelves. Dusted off now to enjoy with a new appreciation and perspective.
Thanks for sharing the light from your own fire. Hoping that it makes for a brighter new year...for all.

This is the best advice anyone can get to start the year.
