One of my favorite Tom Waits lines "I don't have a husband, he don't play the trombone."

My fave is, "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

I used to watch Fernwood Tonight with my grandparents when I saw Tom Waits appear - And my little ears perked up 🆙

I Loved Fernwood Tonight! Martin Mull was such a trip, and his sidekick, Fred. So tongue in cheek. I don't remember Tom Waits on the show. I saw Waits in concert once. A small venue in Santa Barbara. For the show, he actually brought a lamp post on stage - to lean against - and 2 scantily clad women wearing pasties and little more than a g-string. And he Did lean against that lamp pole. A memorable performance by all. And that voice.

Agreed, that is a good one! Waits has so many great lines throughout his whole production though, making it hard to pick absolute favorites.

Tom always sings ‘em as life always slings ‘em - hard on the outside and once in a while soft within.
