Thank you for this tribute for Woody. He's been a life long nspiration for me. His democratic socialism, we need him today. And as Zapata swingshis rifle around Woody played his guitar. He had a sticker on his guitar which said "this guitar kills fascists". Listen to all his songs. He tried to write one a day. On justice, nature's beauty, little children. He saw wonder all around him. And he certainly could portray in music the suffering of those on the margins.

I was thinking the same thing. We do need Woody’s music and his belief in the rights of every man, woman, and child to a decent life. I think we’ve gone beyond the “fixing fences” and may need to dismantle some of the insane stuff that’s been put in place by the current regime.

Well said, Kathleen. Injustice has been codified, aiming to snuff out the most basic human rights. I’m heartened by the efforts to organize, to protest, and keep singing these songs —of the people and for the people.

It was a thrill on one of my road trips to stumble into Okemah, OK his birthplace. I didn't even know that until I saw a park and mural. One of those things that makes wandering magical.

Beautiful!

My favorite stanza:

"But back there

Zapata swings his rifle around

you play your guitar

sing everybody's songs

and the eyes of man

retain the fire

to fix the fences

or burn the world down. "

Do they?

Okemah, Oklahoma is Woody's birthplace. The town celebrates him annually during this time with a wonderful music festival, Woody Fest. I've had the pleasure of attending and it's a beautiful experience to celebrate with a multigenerational fan base that has such a reverence for him, and the values he represents. His legacy runs deep in the region. By the end of the weekend there's not a dry eye in the house!

I’m grateful to Woody and Seeger but Thank G-d in 2025 we have Jesse Welles releasing bangers even several times a month that help us get through these times! Home grown Arkansas yet wise beyond his years. Jesse stands on the shoulders of giants whom he learned from by and by at street level. You will see whether 22 or 69!

Good music isn’t afraid to make you a little uncomfortable, right after it helps you pick up the pieces.

Guthrie set the bar: sometimes you need a song that sits with you, and sometimes you need one that gives you a push. The best do both.

📌 The right song keeps you honest, even when it’s easier to look away.

I think Woody would approve.
