I was waiting for the punchline. Dead at 40. Alcohol. Pain. Poverty. Feeling most alive daring death. - I am a long term recovering drug addict and alcoholic. For years, in recovery from the booze and pills, my addiction to danger, drama and trauma was still active. Finding a way to feel alive that did not kill me was a difficult and courageous process. I was 29 when I got sober and was by then beaten to a pulp. I am now 75 and still inspired, restless, and devoted to help others the way I was once helped. I am also, still shocking to me, an ordained minister. I am still a fan of Jack London and Charles Bukowski and others. I am also a fan of William Blake and Thich Nhat Hahn (sp.). Even further shocking to me, I am in a writing renaissance like I have not seen since a published book spree in my mid-thirties when, among other books, my autobiography at age 34! Weird. Thank God we are not all comets. Bright. Leaving a trail. Gone. And grateful too for Poetic Outlaws who keep the campfire burning for people like me who are but a glowing coal. - Dwight Lee Wolter.

Your reportage on the literary giants is so appreciated and appropriate.

At age 65, I am now living my long time dream of semiretirement writing, breathing, swimming in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, by the wild Pacific ocean and close to indigenous people...I feel so ALIVE.

I died twice in the pandemic. December 10, 2025 marked the 4th anniversary of EMTs reviving me...and I slowly crawled back to life after 3 hospitalizations, from 84 lbs, a wheelchair, demented from extreme malnutrition and renal failure... but I made it. I feel 45 again. Some strange time travel happened.

I am again working on my manuscript of THE ZIHUA DIARIES, a shorter memoir as well, hosting a weekly writing group, and operating a charity service to give books, learning supplies and encouragement to working, migrante and street children... LIBROS PARA NINOS-ZIH. I also teach indigenous women how to read and write in Spanish.

Illiteracy is a cruel silence.

Bless us, the word crafters, the story tellers, the brave.

Felice Ano Nuevo, from Zihuawriter.

My work on earth was not done yet.

Carpe diem!
