Thanks for this! Taken on its own, it’s a poem that changes, shows different aspects of its meaning with each reading. I love it for that! It is a complete meditation. It also is a response, as in call and response, to Wendell Berry’s dear friend, poet Gary Snyder, who says in his Practice of the Wild, basically, find a place, learn it, take care of it. Berry, light as air and diaphanous, Snyder, flinty. Both urging the same thing. Both fully aware of our realities.
